All in all I'd have to say I enjoyed Rat Race. It was non-stop action almost the entire way through, the cast was fun and there were some very funny scenes. In order to have some very rich people spend a lot of their money at his casino, he has come up with some different types of wagering to keep these rich people interested. From guessing what's inside the chocolate to how much will the hooker charge, to a rat race where 6 groups of people all have a shot at 2 million dollars.
Cuba Gooding Jr. Seth Green and Vince Vieluf are the Cody brothers, con artist extraordinaires. Whoopi Goldberg and Lanei Chapman are mother and daughter who haven't seen each other in 27 years. Rowan Atkinson is Enrico, the narcoleptic guy who talks funny. Amy Smart is Tracy, the helicopter pilot.
Breckin Meyer is the hot shot attorney who has never done anything illegal in his life and is quickly falling for Tracy. These 6 teams all must travel from Las Vegas to Silver City, New Mexico almost miles and try and claim the big bucks.
The best thing about Rat Race is that it is well paced. They set up the characters very quickly in the beginning, giving all of them some strange trait or background that comes back into play later on. One of the Cody brothers has a new tongue ring that he put in himself, making it impossible for him to speak clearly.
Owen's referee character made a horrible call in the last game making a lot of people lose a lot of money. Enrico falls asleep at the drop of a hat. Every one of them has some strange foible that shapes who they are. After the characters are set up, the race begins in earnest. The great thing about ensemble road trip movies is that you can jump from group to group so that something is always happening. No stupid love story slowing down the movie. No getting bored of one character.
After one team gets caught up in a cow, you cut to another guy driving a bus full of Lucy wannabes. It keeps the movie moving at a great pace. Sign In. Edit Rat Race Showing all items. When they see the sign, Merrill says, "We're at 2. When Blaine is getting Duane to put the money in the bag, you can see at one point he tries to stop himself from laughing. On the DVD there is a 6 minute long outtake where they both keep laughing on this take.
In the beginning, Donald Sinclair says that, when they enter the train station, the lockers will be to their right. When Enrico enters, you can clearly see the lockers were to the left. When Owen is talking to Gus the Cabbie, he says that it is "about miles". Klaus Barbie was never a ballroom dancing champion as one character claims. When Tracy and Nick are discussing travel plans in the restaurant, Nick says they are 3 hours ahead of everyone else since they took the helicopter.
This is impossible considering Tracy went north away from Silver City, New Mexico to check in with her boyfriend in the previous scene. When the monster truck jumps over Blaine and Duane in slow motion, Blaine's tongue piercing is missing. When Tracy and Nick arrive at Tracy's ex-boyfriend's house in her helicopter, Shawn's Tracy's ex-boyfriend mini-pool falls apart and water spills everywhere. He and the girl are both submerged in water and go flying.
About 10 seconds later, he runs to his car in a collared shirt and he is completely dry. When Duane is being pulled up by the radar tower, he is hanging on by the steering wheel, but in the next shot you see of him he is sitting in his seat again. At the monster truck ralley, in the first shot as the monster truck revs up, ready to jump the ramp, look at the huge advert signs behind it. One of them has "PowerBar" written on it, but in the second shot as the truck roars over the ramp, the same sign is now totally different.
One of the bikers is clearly knocking off the rear-left swastika flag but when the car enters the veteran's convention the flag is back on. The windows in the doors of the helicopter disappear when Tracy and Nick throw things at the pick up, then reappear afterwards. In the single outside shot of the "Fatburger" diner, when we hear Bev saying "right, everybody OK?
You alright When we first see Enrico on the train, he seems to be sitting facing in the direction that the train is traveling judging by the direction in which he is turning his head to look at the passing scenery. In the next shot, from inside the train, we see that he is sitting in a seat facing away from the direction the train is traveling. As Blaine is climbing the tower trying to outrun the truck, the rope pulling the truck changes position relative to him several times.
Sometimes it's behind him, sometimes in front, sometimes to his left, sometimes to his right. When Blaine sticks out his tongue at the girl when he's driving, his tongue has healed and there isn't a huge bruise, as there was before. If this all took place in one day, this certainly could not have happened, as it would not have healed completely.
As Duane drives through a wooden fence into the 4-wheel drive race we see the grill of the car intact, but it was destroyed several scenes earlier. When Vicky is stealing the money, Mr. Grisham says he will drive and gets into the left-hand side of the car. After the cow lands on the car, he is in the right-hand side. Tracey's hair in the helicopter jumps from under the headset to falling around her face and back again. Tracey throws several objects at the truck when she discovers her boyfriend cheating, denting the hood in several places.
A few minutes later, when she is chasing the truck through the brush, the dents are gone. When Mr. Sinclair calls to have his other Lear Jet ready for use, the next shot is a Gulfstream G-4 with five well spaced large oval windows.
But the interior shots are of a much larger passenger jet with multiple small windows and massive headroom. As Duane Cody hangs from the rope of the hot air balloon, he crashes into a herd of cows. The rope is originally wrapped around his arm twice but in subsequent shots it switches randomly from being wrapped twice to once or not at all until he falls off the rope. The way the rope is tied to the bumper of the truck changes as it is being pulled along the ground and then up the tower.
Just as the truck first hits the tower, you can see that the tower is already bent, but moments earlier it wasn't. When Blaine throws the rope onto the radar, only the hook catches onto the radar. When the radar begins to turn you can see the rope wrapped over the radar and the hook fastened on the rope. Blaine reacts twice to the surprise of the truck coming up behind him on the tower.
Once when the truck hits the tower and again in the close-up. When Merril and Vera ask the squirrel lady for directions, she tells them to drive 1. However when they get to the yellow sign with graffiti on it, Merrill says "OK, we're at 2. When Enrico and Zack are in the van, there is a car in the lane beside them. When they switch lanes, this car which should be behind them is gone. When Nick is talking to Tracy in the airport the second time we can hear and see her closing the book but in the next scene she's holding it open again.
When Nick walks to Tracy to tell her his great comeback, she closes her book. In the next shot she has it opened at the same page as before, and then closes it again. Is this interesting? When Vera and Merrill roll off of the cliff, into the pile of cars, the back tyres of the car aren't spinning in one shot, but are in the next, and then are still in the next shot again. When Merrill and Vera meet for the first time in the hotel, they sit down, and Merrill puts her black handbag down on the table in front of her.
It disappears in the next shot. When Vera and Merrill first meet, they sit down and Merrill puts her handbag on the table so that the side with the little pink flower at the top faces Vera. In the next shot it faces Merrill. When Whoopi and her daughter arrive at the Silver City station, they are in a bus. The bus passes by the station, and you can see that they are fairly close to it.
When they get off the bus and run towards the station, they are much farther away. In the Balloon Chase scene, if you watch the sky it changes a couple of times. One time it's overcast, the next it is evening and the sky is orange. When Nick and Tracy kiss on the stage at the "Feed the Earth" concert, Tracy has her arm around Nick's chest in one shot, but it's around his neck in the next. After Randy gets lipstick on his hand, he smears it on the steering wheel.
But when the bikers are attacking them, smashing the car up, in many shots you can see the steering wheel has no lipstick on it. It returns later, when it gives Randy a moustache. When Duane and Blaine burst into the monster truck rally, a hub-cap comes off one of the front wheels. But, for the rest of the scene, both hub-caps are still in place. When Randy and the family enter the hotel room, they put the bags down and go round to the boudoir area.
In the next shot the position of the bags by the door has changed. Throughout the chase-after-the-hot-air-balloon scene, the hood of the blue car that Blaine and Duane drive differs from dusty to sparkling clean from shots. Duane sprays the key-cutter's face with milk from the cow's udder, and his face is wet, and covered in white milk, but in the next shot the white milk has gone. When Donald Sinclair explains the race, he explains that they have 1 in 6 chance of winning, same as a die roll, then he rolls the die.
Later in the scene, the die has vanished without anyone moving it. At the end when the highrollers are aboard the private jet, the outside shows a small plane, but the interior shot shows a huge plane with tonnes of overhead room. When Seth Green is being pulled up the side of a radio control tower while in a truck, the rotating radio receiver which is pulling the truck upwards groans and fractures under the stress, but the rope is not taut and obviously not holding any weight.
When the rope tied around the radar pulls Duane's truck forward, in a wide shot the sky is crystal blue and totally clear. Once the truck has been pulled to the top of the tower moments later, in another wide shot the sky is now filled with clouds. When Zack opens the cooler to see the heart, the level of ice cubes in the cooler lowers between shots.
Tracy's hairband keeps changing colour throughout the movie. At the airport its a white scrunchy and in the helicopter it starts off black, and then goes to light brown. When the engine falls from the back of a truck, Zach is driving his van perfectly in the right lane, but when in cuts to a closeup of the wheel of his van driving over the engine, he is now driving so half of the van is in each lane.
When Owen is sitting at the bar, and the TV has him featured as "Loser of the Week," the same woman in a blue top, carrying a handbag and blue cardigan walks past him twice. When Vera and Merrill sneak up to the rocket car, and start pretending to present it, there are two men speaking by a stand, which has six microphones standing on it.
However when Vera and Merrill start the rocket car up, we see the two men turning round to look, and now two of the microphones are lying down on the wooden stand, and a seventh mike has appeared. When Donald Sinclair and the gamblers are on the private plane, from an exterior view the plane has five, spaced out, circular windows, but in the interiors shot we see the plane has many more windows, which are less spaced out and are now rectangular. As Vera and Merrill drive down the road and then turn right, down the shortcut just past the yellow sign with the graffiti on it, there is no front licence plate on the car.
However, as the car rolls down the hill, there is a white plate fixed on. When Nick and his friend are talking in the hotel lobby about breaking rules, the extras in the background change in every shot, some passing twice, some jumping location, others appearing and disappearing.
The knot in the rope and the way the rope is tied around the bumper of Duane's car, in the scene where they break the radar, changes between shots. When the bikers attack Hitler's car, they break off the front left flag.
You can also see it is back later when the people come to collect it from the diner car park. When Vera and Merrill are renting a car, the car rental employee asks if they want a Chevrolet Caprice. The ladies agree but in the next scene, they are seen in a Dodge Intrepid. The presenter says the rocket care has "solid billet wheels," but they are shown to be rubber. When Duane and his brother are chasing the hot air balloon, the brother is on the hood and rips off the plastic thing on the front of the car.
In the next shot the thing is back on. When Tracey and Nick are at the gas station, the clouds in the background keep changing from shot to shot. When Donald Sinclair throws the dice across the table in the reception room, they tumble past Blaine. In the next shot, the dice are in front of him. When Tracy and Nick are chasing Shawn in the helicopter scene, the telephone lines and street signs suddenly disappear. However, you see the four of them walking and talking as if they haven't been in their car, yet.
When Vicky and Mr. Grisham drive off with the money, the cow lands on them. When the money gets tied to the hot air balloon, Mr. Grisham is in Vicky's seat and Vicky is gone. When the two brothers are frantically trying to get out of the car because the monster truck is barreling toward them in slo-mo , you will notice that the tongue ring is missing from the one brother's tongue.
Odd mistake seeing as his character is centered around the tongue ring. When Tracy visits her boyfriend in the helicopter, she starts to throw random objects at his truck. Watch her first throw where she cracks the back window, you'll notice that the front bonnet is dented although nothing has hit the bonnet yet. If you believe something might have been thrown before that, when she throws the second and third object there is no dent where that one was.
At the Monster Truck Rally, the blue convertible that they are driving has no dents or scratches, it looks perfect. But in the scene before that they are doing nosedives into the dirt while chasing the hot air balloon. You can clearly see the damage then. When Tracy is throwing things at her boyfriend's truck, you can see two dents in the roof. However, when Tracy is chasing her boyfriend, there is no damage to the roof.
In the helicopter chase scene you can clearly see that the metallic pickup truck had suffered serious grille and bumper damage, but in the scene when they arrived at the service station the front appears to be undamaged.
Blaine's tongue piercing disappears at the airport, when he's trying to run away from the car, he screams and you can clearly see that the piercing is not there. When Tracy is flying over Sean's house in the helicopter, the long green hose on Sean's lawn changes position between shots, and in one shot you can see one of the patio chairs has fallen over, but it's back upright in the next shot.
At the end when everyone is dancing with Smash Mouth, just before Randy plays the harmonica Vera is singing with the singer of Smash Mouth, then in the next shot she is dancing behind Randy as he plays, and then in the next shot she is back dancing with the lead singer. When Vera and Merrill roll off of the cliff, into the pile of cars, between shots the cars around them change. When Randy is driving Hitler's car, the scenery that they drive past changes in every shot. Between shots he changes from holding the dish landscape to portait and then back again.
When Donald Sinclair rolls the die across the table, it rolls well past Blaine, but in the next shot it is right in front of him. When Jason and Kimberley are jumping on the beds, the bolster on one of the beds falls off in one shot, but is back on in the next. When Zack and Enrico are driving along, and they swerve past the car, two cars behind them on the road disappear, and the markings on the road completely change between these shots.
As Duane is about to hit the first cow in the field, the direction it is facing changes instantly between shots. When Blaine and Duane are driving alongside the pierced girl in the red car, the position of the blue bands around Blaine's wrist change position between shots. When Seth Green and his brother are chasing the keymaker, they fly over two embankments. In both shots, upon impact they break the A-pillar in the car, resulting in the nose of the car pointing upwards and the area directly under the windscreen bent down, common in a stunt like that.
In the next shot of them racing along the paddock, the car is perfectly normal. In the scene where Duane and his brother are trying to delay all the airline flights, a few seconds after his truck goes through the fence, you see a shot with everything in it. The rope in this shot is curved, when it should be straight, as the radar is pulling the truck.
When all the characters get to Silver City and get to the locker room, we see Seth Green in the background and the dude with the tongue ring in front leaning on the door frame. The next shots shows Seth in the front and the tongue guy behind him saying he's sleeping.
How did Seth get there so fast? When Owen is being chased by the Lucys his jacket is sweaty and dirty. Then when he wakes up in front of the horse pasture it's perfectly clean and bright white, like it just got washed and bleached.
When Randy asks the officer "how fast was I going," his seatbelt jumps from under to over his collar between shots. Again, when Kimberley is begging him to stop at the Barbie museum, the seatbelt repeatedly jumps from over to under his collar. When Duane and Blaine see the keycutter drive off Blaine cries "There he is! But in the next shot they are up. When the kids are crowded around Enrico, watching him sleep, the crowd changes position. When the Italian man comes into the building to get to the locker with the money, the other man is talking on the phone.
When he finishes talking, he closes the phone which means he disconnected the call. But when the Italian man falls asleep the people on the other side of the telephone can hear the snoring although the call was already disconnected. Between shots the bikers riding beside Hitler's car change. Bev is ordering Randy to stop the car, but he won't, so she head-butts him.
She is wearing a red jacket, however after she head-butts him, it goes to a wider shot outside of the car, but through the car windshield you can see she or, her stunt double, has a blue denim jacket on now. When the receptionist gives Nick his hotel bill, a Parker-type pen appears in Nick's hand between shots.
Don't waste your time. Teen, 16 years old Written by AshDawg October 28, One of the silliest movies Hey guys! Im a relatively sheltered kid who usually doesn't watch movies that include much swearing or sexual content. This movie was fine. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how true to its rating it was It really wasn't dirty just a little gross in some spots.
More so toilet humor than anything. It had a relatively silly, immature sense of humor that I really wouldn't want a child to miss out on. However, some sexy stuff is present; that's why I would say 13 and up. A lot of kids wouldn't even understand a lot of the innuendos. The only scene you will want to fast forward through is a scene where a woman flashes a man from a vehicle. The scene does not last long and only the side of her breasts are seen.
Anyway, hope this helps It was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while. A good family movie for families with kids 13 and up. Teen, 15 years old Written by Indep September 9, Hilarious movie with innuendo and cartoonish violence This movie is fairly clean, but there is a lot of sexual innuendo and talk.
There is one scene where a woman flashes a man while they are driving. You can see the side and tops of her breasts, but no front view. The violence is dramatic but cartoonish. There are a lot of car crashes and near death experiences. The drinking is all legal. The characters are very persistent and can teach kids to never give up. Overall, kids 13 and older should have no problem with this hilarious movie.
This title contains: Positive role models. Teen, 14 years old Written by Gamersnews32 July 7, Kind of a family movie, Hella funny though! Rat Race is a comedy with the most hilarious sequences and the most cartoonish violence. With a good cast of characters, this is a joyride of laughs. Violence is frequent but very cartoonish.
No one gets hurt, one scene shows a heart being taken out if a container and gettt lost. No blood or gore. Sexuality is moderate. A women flashes her cleavage on a highway. You can see the side of her breasts but is pretty censored. Innuendo is nearly constant. This title contains: Positive Messages. Positive role models. The movie is pretty clean, some inuendo, but the movie really shines with the Jewish family, and Rowan Atkinson, the actor of Mr Bean.
The on my bad part is when a teen shines some dudes. This title contains: Sexy stuff. What went over my head was some of the crashing injuries, etc. Kid, 11 years old November 11, Kid, 9 years old July 15, Teen, 15 years old Written by Mitchell Charleston May 26, Too vulgar, but soooooo funny. I totally agree with CSM. This film is hilarous, but so vulgar. I would not let a kid watch it. Other than that nitpick, this is comedy gold.
Sometimes Vulgar Film is extremely Funny. Parents need to know that while this film is very, very funny. It's also vulgar and full of potty humor. A man make's up a lie about a pregnant woman, and describes it in great detail. Several men make a bet on a hooker naming the price for a sex act for another man,and a woman flashes her breasts, nothing shown. But all played for laughs. Woman flashes her breasts, nothing's shown. And the colorful cast fit's perfectly with their roles.
Moments in the film like when Jon Lovitz and his family visit the "Barbie" muesum when it's actually about Nazis and steal Hitler's car,and when Cuba Gooding Jr. In other word's,this is the best money race comedy in years.

Filming took place primarily along Calgary's highways, which stood in as highways that the characters travel on in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.
Desert scenes were shot in the Canadian town of Drumheller. Other scheduled filming locations in Nevada included Goodsprings and Sandy Valley. Scenes involving Gooding and the group of Lucy impersonators were shot in the Canadian Rockies. Jerry Zucker, who had a tradition of including his mother Charlotte in each of his films beginning with Airplane! Jerry Zucker said, "It's like the Alfred Hitchcock signature.
Instead of me, it's mom. Sound stages were constructed inside two aircraft hangars at the base to be used for many of the film's interior scenes, including the Venetian's hotel rooms and conference room. Driving scenes, using green screens and rear projection effects , were also shot inside the hangars. Filming returned to Las Vegas for a nine day period beginning on September 20, , with the first three days spent at the McCarran International Airport, before moving to the Venetian resort on the Las Vegas Strip for a six day shoot.
Venetian scenes included the casino, lobby, and the entrance to its valet parking garage, as well as exterior shots of the resort. As a result, the initial two day shoot in Ely was extended to six days. Ely's western entrance, accessed from U. Route 50 , was used as the entrance to Silver City. After concluding in Ely, production crews relocated to southern California for the final six weeks of filming, mainly for exterior scenes.
Sinclair and the gamblers' eccentric habits are further exaggerated in deleted scenes, where they partake in many more ridiculous bets, including playing Monopoly with real money. In another scene, a high roller pretends to find what they are doing immoral.
Professional wrestler Diamond Dallas Page and his wife, Kimberly, had a cameo that was cut when test audiences failed to give his appearance any reaction. The scene is available on the DVD release.
